Great Operatic Mezzo-Sopranos
From best friends to feisty heroines, femme-fatales to goddesses, the mezzo-
soprano voice has been used to represent some of the most famous characters
in opera from Carmen to Delilah, Amneris to Fricka. These characters have also
been assigned some of opera's greatest music and they have been performed by
some of the greatest singers, from Ebe Stignani to Marilyn Horne, Rise Stevens to
Cecila Bartoli.
Join us for this course where we will examine opera’s most famous mezzo-sopranos
and the roles they have sung. The course will make extensive use of recordings and
DVDs.
