Eliane Morel

Eliane Morel (Mezzo) studied Voice at the Canberra School of Music, Theatre at UNSW and Playwriting at NIDA, and continued her vocal studies in Sydney with Susan Reppion-Brooke and Ghillian Sullivan.

 

She has performed as an actor/singer for Citymoon Theatre, Kantanka Theatre and Company of Rogues, and has also devised and performed her own shows including Ba Ngoai, a show about her Vietnamese grandmother (made possible by an Australia Council grant) and All Night Long featuring the talents of bogus Feng Shui expert from Hong Kong, Madam Long.  Her most recent solo show 'Disenchanted: A Cabaret of Twisted Fairy Tales', has toured the South Coast and appeared at several Fringe Festivals nationwide, picking up the award for 'Best Show' at both Newcastle and Dubbo Fringes. In 2023 she plans to tour it internationally to Avignon and Edinburgh.

As a singer, she has appeared with Pacific Opera (The Magic Flute) and the Jubilate Singers (Dido and Aeneas), has toured Indonesia with singer/songwriter Sawung Jabo in his show, Shadows, and visited Cuba to perform at the International Choral Festival with her choir, Voices from the Vacant Lot. More recently, she has been working as a concert singer throughout Sydney and Regional New South Wales, including concerts for Newcastle Festival Opera and Newcastle Musica Viva.  She also regularly tours schools with Theatre in Education solo shows.

Her roles with Opera Bites include the title role in Carmen, Rosina in The Barber of Seville, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Servant/Notary in Don Pasquale and Gertrude Lawrence in the revival season of Noël, Cole and Gertie in the Middle.
